Alternative Education provides opportunities for students not eligible to attend schools in their local school districts, those students ordered to attend by their probation officer, or students referred by their district School Attendance Review Boards or other local process. Programs include:

• Community Day Schools established at the request of school districts and serving students who have been expelled or referred by their district School Attendance Review Board (SARB) or other local process. There are approximately 55 Community Day School classes operated on 30 sites throughout the county. This is a full six-hour daily program.

• Juvenile Court Schools are located in San Bernardino (Central Juvenile Hall), Rancho Cucamonga (West Valley Juvenile Hall), and Hesperia (Desert-Mountain Juvenile Hall). They provide educational programs for all students who are wards of the court. Programs include the Regional Youth Education Facility for boy and girls.

• Independent Alternative Education (IAE) provides independent study instruction for students not assigned to a community school classroom site.
