Pumpkin Color Recognition Toy

This simple switch toy (seen above and below) is called a Cheap Talker. It is sold by Enabling Devices. It allows you to record 20 seconds of speech for each square. We used laminated pictures to prepare this toy as a tool for color recognition (above) and names of fruits/vegetables (below). Above the Thanksgiving pictures reinforce holiday language by saying "Happy Thanksgiving" and "Happy Turkey Day" with the colors. The children play with this during the free play period. This toy can be used for many purposes such as a simple communication board, number recognition, etc. We use these daily for our children who are non-verbal.

Pie Pan for song "No More Pie"
Scarf for Muffin Man song. Game uses this traditional song with a child taking a turn wearing a scarf over their eyes. (We always make sure that the child is not afraid to do this activity.) Someone in the class says "Yes, I know the Muffin Man" and the blindfolded child tries to guess who is speaking. This can be played several times.

The turkey seen below can be attached to a single switch remote from AbleNet. It lights up for all our Turkey Songs found on the music page. This turkey was found in the Fall '99 Oriental Trading Co. catalog.

Food Pyramid Puzzle

Lakeshore Learning Materials has several nice puzzles and learning games related to the Food Pyramid. This year we purchased the puzzle seen below and their nutrition lotto game.
