Children Friendly Gingerbread Boys

Ingredients

1/2 Cup shortening + 1 tbsp.
1/2 Cup brown sugar
2 Eggs
1 package Butterscotch pudding mix
11/2 cups flour
11/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Supplies

Oven
Cookie Sheets
Gingerbread Cookie Cutters

Cream the shortening and sugar, add eggs and mix well.  Add dry pudding mix and flour and spices.  Mix well.  Have the children roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut with cookie cutter.  Bake on greased cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.  This dough is easy to handle.  We made ours on paper plates with a little flour sprinkled on them.

Reindeer Sandwiches

White Bread ( two slices for each child)
Maraschino cherries ( 1 per child)
straight pretzels (two for each child, plus some for munching)
Bologna (1 slice for each child)
Cheese (1 slice for each child)
butter or mayonnaise if desired

Supplies

Napkins or paper plates

Have the children layer the cheese and bologna and make a conventional sandwich.  Then cut the sandwich into triangles, stick pretzels at top corners and a cherry at the point of the triangle to make a reindeer face.  See photo.  This was a great hit with the children!
