Our Gingerbread Men are described on the Fine Motor/Art page.  The tree lights up with a single switch and a small appliance receiver from AbleNet inc. (described below.) We have the children turn off the classroom lights and  touch the single switch  to light up the tree before we sing the song Oh Christmas Tree.  The single switch teaches cause and effect to children with severe cognitive delays,  turning off the classroom lights develops a sense of independence and tying the activities together makes for a great direction following activity.    Everyone enjoys participating!

2000 Bulletin Boards

Our tree below lights up using the same switch from AbleNet discussed above.

2001 Bulletin Board

The tree above was made from paper plates.  The children used green paint with sponges first,  then they dabbed on red berries with a small circular sponge that we purchased at a local craft store.  We added their pictures and some red ribbon to make them special.

2004 Bulletin Boards

Students painted small paper plates red.  These plates were decorated with laminated student photos taken with our digital camera.

Below  the children practiced their number concepts while waiting for Santa's visit to our school.

These are great boards if you want to keep to secular theme.
