WHAT IS HISTORY DAY?

History Day is an interdisciplinary program that encourages students to research and prepare papers, exhibits, performances, documentary presentations, websites and 2-dimensional displays (posters) on an annual historical theme to have them judged by historians, educators, and other professionals in related fields. Students increase their knowledge of history through classroom activities within the content and process of the social studies, language arts, literature and the arts.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF HISTORY DAY?

To further understand how historical sources are used and evaluated in developing ideas and concepts about society. To increase student proficiency in reasoning and communications skills. To promote cooperation among students with different abilities and skills to create an authentic product. To integrate History/Social Science with other disciplines in ways that captivate student interest.

WHAT ARE THE DIVISIONS OF COMPETITION
Elementary - grades 4 or 5 (2-dimensional displays only - i.e., posters)
Junior - grades 6, 7, or 8
Senior - grades 9, 10, 11, or 12

WHAT CATEGORIES MAY A STUDENT CHOOSE TO ENTER?

INDIVIDUAL CATEGORIES
Exhibit, Documentary,
Performance, Website,
Research Paper, and 2-dimensional displays (Poster)
GROUP CATEGORIES (2-5 students)
