Administrative Leadership

The Administrative Leadership Program is designed to support site and district level leadership development. The core work is: Coaching Leaders to Attain Student Success, Tier II Administrative Credential Completion, and the Aspiring Administrator’s Academy.

Increasingly, complex demands often limit the administrator’s ability to focus on instructional leadership. A critical, confidential coach/mentor provides increased focus and research-based resources to improve the effectiveness of the site or district leader. Although originally designed by the New Teacher Center at UC Santa Cruz for beginning principals, this program supports both new and veteran principals. McRel found that strong instructional leaders have a profound effect on student achievement. “Twenty-one specific leadership behaviors have a positive effect on student achievement.”

The coaching session designed to meet the individual needs of the administrators are based upon the best practices and research: California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders; Interstate School Leaders Licensees Consortium; and Mid Continent Research for Education and Leadership (McREL) “Balance Leadership: What Thirty Years of Research Tells Us About the Effect of Leadership on Student Achievement.” Further, the coaching includes the work of Michael Fullan and John Kotter. The Aspiring Administrator Academy is a seminar series of 10-12 two-hour workshops designed for the potential administrator, lead teacher, or practicing assistant principal.
