No Arguments Concerning REV As Mock Trial Champs

Even after finding out his team had won the San Bernardino County Mock Trial championships, Redlands East Valley High School coach Ed Berman was still a bit numb from the pressure of the competition.

"I'm almost to the point where I can talk again now," said Berman, whose team won its sixth county Mock Trial title on Dec. 8 against rival Redlands High School.

There was no doubt this was a nail-biter with both teams going head-to-head for the championship. In the past nine years, the two have combined to win all nine championships with Redlands East Valley holding a 5-4 edge during that span.

In winning the 31st annual county competition, Redlands East Valley advances to the 34th annual state Mock Trial championships, which will be held March 22-24 in Riverside.

With six titles - including three in the past four years - Redlands East Valley is one short of Apple Valley for the most in county history. Redlands, which was the defending county champion coming into this year's competition, has won a record 11 titles.

Both Redlands East Valley and Redlands, along with the other 27 county teams in the event, will be recognized at the Mock Trial awards ceremony on Jan. 10 at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino.

Berman has led his team to four championships in the past six years. Students participating in the finals for the school were: Nathan Bergquest, Blake Berich, Ben Booth, Alex Carls, Tyler Chung, Summer Dietsche, Cameron Douglas, Autumn Gerber, Wade Johnson, Hailey McClung, Sean Rhodes, Harrison Ring and Kelly Wright.

Redlands is coached by Donna St. George. Students who participated in Saturday's finals competition were: Zane Hoffman, Advika Nambisan, Kristian Rolland, Emily Shu, Archana Sivanandam, John Soliman, Jack Stewart, Seth Wacks and Summer Zofrea

More than 500 students representing 29 high schools participated in the Mock Trial competition this year. This event is co-sponsored by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and the San Bernardino County District Attorney's office.
