2012-12-04

SAN BERNARDINO - Jesus Holguin, who has served on the Moreno Valley Unified School Board for the past decade, has been elected as a vice president of the California School Boards Association.

He also is president of the Riverside County School Boards Association and the Moreno Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

"I will continue advocating for adequate state and federal funding for our educational system, for the benefit of all of our students," Holguin said. "I will promote opportunities for students to obtain a safe and sound well-rounded education and look for solutions to close the achievement gap and increase the graduation rate in our state."

Holguin served on the CSBA's Delegate Assembly from 2002-10. He has been a member of the annual Conference Planning Committee, the Policy Platform Committee and an on-site validator for the Golden Bell Awards. He chaired the Budget Committee for two years and was a member of the Compensation Review and Legislative committees. He currently serves on the Leadership and Diversity Study Workgroup.

For County Schools, Holguin is a fiscal analyst for Business Advisory Services.

The California School Boards Association is a collaborative group of the state's more than 1,000 school districts and county offices of education. As a group, it develops, communicates and advocates the perspective of California school districts and county offices of education.
