Harrison New President Of County Board Of Education

SAN BERNARDINO - The San Bernardino County Board of Education elected Bette Harrison as its new president of the five-member body at its meeting on Dec. 3.

In a unanimous vote, Harrison takes over as board president and succeeds Alen Ritchie, who served as the Board's president for the past year. In addition, the board voted unanimously to elect Laura Abernathy Mancha as vice president. She succeeds Harrison as vice president.

Harrison represents Trustee Area B, which includes the districts of Alta Loma, Central, Chaffey, Etiwanda, Mt. Baldy, Ontario-Montclair and Upland. Harrison has served on the County Board since 2010.

Mancha represents Trustee Area C, which includes the districts of Chaffey, Chino Valley, Cucamonga, Fontana, Mountain View and Ontario-Montclair. She was appointed to the Board in 2011 and elected to the position in November.

The Board establishes policy, adopts an annual budget, approves building plans and hears student expulsion, inter-district transfer and charter school appeals. The Board meets monthly, regularly the first Monday of the month.
