Alliance For Education Receives $10,000 Grant From The Gas Co.

2012-11-26

SAN BERNARDINO - The Southern California Gas Company presented the Alliance for Education with a $10,000 grant today as part of the company's 2012 Education Initiative.

The Alliance for Education, created through the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, fosters partnerships between business, labor, government and community-based groups with education to produce a skilled workforce to ensure the economic well-being of the county.

"SoCalGas has long supported local education programs with funding and management support in the communities we serve, but we see the value that the Alliance for Education provides in the Inland Empire because it continually brings the key stakeholders in the region to the table: the educators, business leaders and non-profits to provide that additional support that our regional workforce development efforts need to help drive student success and local economic vitality," said Cedric Williams, director of field services for the Inland Region for Southern California Gas Co.

The Alliance for Education will use the grant in its Applications by Business and Labor for Educators (ABLE) program. Partnering with the University of California, Riverside's Academy for Learning through Partnershps for Higher Achievement (ALPHA) Center, the grant will be used to provide ABLE presentations on real-world applications in mathematics to middle schools across San Bernardino County.

"We are fortunate to have business partners like Southern California Gas Company who understand the value of bringing real-world applications to our students to further their learning," County Superintendent Gary Thomas said. "We appreciate the commitment The Gas Company continues to make with our Alliance for Education, including its advisory support to the Alliance's regional executive boards, and thank The Gas Company for all the support it has provided over the years."
