County To Honor Veterans Diploma Project Graduates On Nov. 5

SAN BERNARDINO - Eight San Bernardino County residents who fought in World War II and the Vietnam War will receive their high school diplomas in a ceremony at the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools on Nov. 5.

The veterans will be part of the fourth graduating class in the Operation Recognition Veterans Diploma Project event, which is held in conjunction with the County Department of Veterans Affairs. The ceremony and reception will be held following the County Board of Education meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at County Schools, which is located at 601 N. E St.

Operation Recognition Veterans Diploma Project provides veterans and internees, who were unable to complete high school due to military service or internment, the opportunity to receive a high school diploma, according to the state education code. Veterans who served in and received an honorable discharge from World War II, the Korean War or the Vietnam War; or individuals who were interned in a Japanese American relocation camp and are San Bernardino County residents are eligible to participate. There is no charge to participate.

  • Robert Abarca, Vietnam War, Army;
  • Frank Aragon, World War II, Navy;
  • Julian Cortez, Vietnam War, Marines;
  • Frank Coyazo, World War II, Army
  • Elias Escamilla, World War II, Navy;
  • Ramon Torres (posthumous), Vietnam War, Army;
  • Richard Underwood, Vietnam War, Navy;
  • John Vasquez, Vietnam War, Army
