Teachers Of Year Named For County Schools' Office

SAN BERNARDINO - Six San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools' regional Teachers of the Year will be recognized by the County Board of Education at its June 11 meeting.

The County Schools' Teachers of the Year are:

Peggy McDonald, a special education teacher in the West End region. She has been a teacher for the past 30 years with County Schools, currently working with visually impaired students. McDonald also has been selected as the County Schools' overall teacher of the year, making her eligible to compete for County Teacher of the Year later this year.

Andrea Bragg, state preschool teacher of the year. She has been with County Schools for the past 13 years. She teaches at Los Amigos State Preschool in Rancho Cucamonga.

Tyrese Crawford, an alterative education teacher. She teaches at David Stine/Chaffey West County Community Day School in Montclair.

Rebecca Eaton, a special education teacher in the East Valley region. She has been a County Schools teacher for the past 23 years and works with severe to profound special education students at Dollahan Elementary in Redlands.

Marsha Halquist, a Regional Occupational Program teacher. For the past 10 years, Halquist has taught at Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead. She teaches a 3D animation class.

Sidney Tharpe, a special education teacher representing Desert/Mountain region. After serving in the military for 20 years, Tharpe followed his "calling" to teach. He teaches at Lomita Elementary in Victorville.

The teachers will be recognized at a ceremony beginning at 3:30 p.m. on June 11 at the Roy C Hill Education Center, 601 N. D St. in San Bernardino.

In addition to the County Schools' Teachers of the Year, the County Board also will recognize National Board Certified Teachers, California Distinguished Schools and Title I Academic Achieving Schools from the county.
