Registration for Apprenticeship Forum on Feb. 26

SAN BERNARDINO -- Registration is being accepted for an apprenticeship forum for high school students, their parents, teachers and counselors that will take place on Feb. 26 at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino.

Approximately 20 apprenticeship coordinators representing various building trades will be in attendance. Examples of some of the trades participating are electrical, operating engineers, plumbing, pipe-fitting, surveying and masonry. Students will have the opportunity to experience hands-on demonstrations, including a crane simulation. The apprenticeship coordinators will relate their trades to real world applications in mathematics.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Damas Room at the National Orange Show. There will be a special pre-session on math standards in the construction field for math and construction teachers, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools’ Alliance for Education program and the Central Labor Council AFL/CIO of San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Partners include the county Regional Occupation Program, Operating Engineers Training Trust and the Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Journey Training Program.
