Gilbert Appointed To County Committee On School District Organization

SAN BERNARDINO - Joanne Gilbert of Rialto was appointed today by San Bernardino County Superintendent Gary Thomas to fill a vacancy on the County Committee on School District Organization for the Fifth Supervisorial District seat.

Gilbert has been on the Rialto Unified School District Board of Education for nearly 13 years and has lived in Rialto for the past 26 years. She spent 37 years in education as a high school teacher, including work in school districts in Long Beach and Moreno Valley.

Gilbert is filling the vacancy left by Colton's Ray Abril, who passed away in December

The County Committee has responsibility for dealing with all school district organization matters. Those responsibilities include altering the number of trustees, establishing trustee boundaries, school district boundary changes and/or unification issues.

The Fifth Supervisorial District includes most of the city of San Bernardino and portions of Colton, Fontana and Rialto, along with the unincorporated communities of Bloomington, El Rancho Verde and Muscoy.
