'Race To Nowhere' Screening Set For May 9

2011-05-04

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - Several hundred educators and parents will attend a screening of the nationwide phenomena, "Race To Nowhere," on May 9 at Los Osos High School.

The documentary, which will start at 6 p.m., explores the high-pressure and high stakes culture that has become part of schools and children's lives. The film is a call to action for families, educators and policymakers on how to best prepare youth to become healthy and productive citizens.

Nationally, there have been more than 1,800 local screenings of the documentary, which was not released for viewings in theaters, but for local groups to watch and discuss following the screenings.

Following the May 9 viewing, Steve PonTell, president of the La Jolla Institute, will lead a question-and-answer session with the audience.

The event is sponsored by the San Bernardino County Education Coalition, in conjunction with County Superintendent Gary Thomas, County Supervisor Janice Rutherford of the Second District and Randall Lewis, executive vice president of the Lewis Group of Companies.

The media is invited to attend the screening and stay afterward for the public discussion.

Los Osos High School is located at 6001 Milliken Ave. in Rancho Cucamonga.
