Multilingual Recognition Program Set For May 6 In Ontario

ONTARIO - On May 6, the 24th annual Multilingual Recognition Program will honor educators, students, parents and community volunteers for their outstanding contributions and achievements of linguistically diverse students.

The ceremony will take place at the Radisson Ontario Airport Hotel from 6-9 p.m. The ceremony is for honorees and their family, friends and colleagues.

In addition, students also will be recognized for their academic achievements. Three scholarships of $500 will be announced, as well as one for $750. Scholarship donations were made by Scholastic; McGraw-Hill/Education; Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Co.; National Geographic/Hampton-Brown; and Pearson.

Community volunteers, paraprofessionals, resource support staff, parents, students, teachers, and administrators will be honored for their work from 17 San Bernardino County school districts. County Superintendent Gary Thomas will give the welcome address.

"This event celebrates the achievements and efforts of those dedicated to our linguistically diverse student populations," said Lizette Diaz, categorical coordinator for the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.

The program will feature the reading of an essay from a senior high school student, who will receive the $750 scholarship.
