Four County Schools Selected As State Distinguished Schools

2011-04-13

SAN BERNARDINO - Four San Bernardino County secondary schools have been named 2011 California Distinguished Schools, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced on April 12.

They were among 97 California middle and high schools to receive the distinction. The San Bernardino County Distinguished Schools by district are:

  • Bear Valley Unified: Big Bear High School;
  • Chino Valley Unified: Ruben S. Ayala High School;
  • Etiwanda: Day Creek Intermediate;
  • San Bernardino City Unified: Col. Joseph C. Rodriguez Prep Academy.

"These schools have reached the peak of achievement, and I applaud the hard work of the students, staff, teachers and administrators, as well as the district leadership, have made to make this recognition possible," County Superintendent Gary Thomas said.

Initiated in 1985, the California Distinguished Schools Program honors elementary and secondary schools in alternate years. The award is recognition of the school's educational program, including high expectations for all students, the implementation of state-adopted standards, and visionary and collaborative leadership.
