San Bernardino County Students Advance To State Science Fair

2011-04-07

SAN BERNARDINO - Nineteen San Bernardino County students received gold medals and will advance to the state competition after the 29th annual Inland Science and Engineering Fair on April 5-6 for the four-county region.

The 19 students from the county were among 73 gold-medal winning recipients from Riverside, Inyo, Mono and San Bernardino (RIMS) county students who competed at the event. They all advance to the California State Science Fair, which will be held in Los Angeles on May 2-3.

More than 750 projects from students in the four-county region participated in the event at the National Orange Show in three divisions: Elementary (fourth- and fifth-graders), Junior (sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders) and Senior (9th- through 12th-graders). Elementary Division participants are not eligible to compete in the state event.

Individual and group projects were judged in 24 categories of science - from microbiology to zoology, math and physics to electronics, and consumer sciences to earth sciences.

The regional fair is sponsored by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, Riverside County Office of Education, Inyo County Office of Education and Mono County Superintendent of Schools.
