The Gas Company Donates to Alliance for Education

2005-01-20

SAN BERNARDINO – The Southern California Gas Company donated $3,000 to Alliance for Education’s program for school-business partnerships.

“As The Gas Company, we support educational efforts that prepare students to be part of our future work force,” said Bob Cruz, public affairs manager for The Gas Company. He also serves a taskforce chairman for the Alliance. “We feel like the Alliance’s program is one of the most focused and well-organized we have seen. It is making progress and getting results.”

The Alliance is a San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools program focused on increasing real-world learning opportunities for students and adult learners. One of its goals is to create more school-business partnerships to give students access to career technical education, problem-based learning concepts and hands-on training and work experience.

“We are thrilled with the cooperation and support we have received from The Gas Company,” said Leslie Rodden, coordinator for the Alliance for Education. “The partnerships and real-world expertise and guidance our students gain from companies like The Gas Company is fundamental to the success of our program.”

The Gas Company is the nation's largest natural gas distribution utility, serving 19 million people through 5.4 million gas meters in more than 530 communities. Headquartered in Los Angeles, it is a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, a Fortune 500 company based in San Diego.
