SAN BERNARDINO - A record number of teams representing San Bernardino County will head to Sacramento this weekend for the California Academic Decathlon.

In 2010, the county sent a record three teams to the state event, with then county champion Chaffey finishing a county-best eighth overall at state.

This year with four teams qualifying for state, Redlands enters the competition with the 11th-best state qualifying score of 43,658.7. It will compete in Division I, along with Chaffey, which scored 42,439.9 (15th-highest in state). Granada Hills Charter School from Los Angeles posted the highest qualifying score of 49,104.9.

Arroyo Valley, with the 24th-best qualifying scored, and Chino Hills, No. 25 in qualifying, will compete in Division II at state.

El Camino Real High School from Los Angeles Unified is the defending state and national champion. It qualified as a wildcard team for this year's state competition.

The California champion will advance to the nationals in Charlotte, N.C., on April 27-30.
