County Committee On School District Organization Looks To Fill Seats

SAN BERNARDINO - The San Bernardino County Committee on School District Organization is seeking applicants to fill two openings on its committee.

The vacancies are for positions in the First Supervisorial District, which includes many of the school districts in the High Desert, and the Fifth Supervisorial District, which includes most of the San Bernardino portions of the cities of Colton, Fontana, Highland and Rialto, along with the unincorporated communities of Bloomington, El Rancho Verde and Muscoy.

The deadline to turn in an application for the positions is 4 p.m. on Feb. 10. Interviews for the vacant positions will be held on Feb. 16 beginning at 6:45 p.m. at the Roy C Hill Education Center, 601 N. E. St. in San Bernardino.

The County Committee has responsibility for dealing with all school district organization matters. Those responsibilities include altering the number of trustees, establishing trustee boundaries, school district boundary changes and/or unification issues.

The County Committee has 11 members - two each from the county Supervisorial areas, plus one at-large member. Committee members cannot be employed by a school district or any county, community college district or county superintendent office, either in a classified or certificated position. Provisions in California Education Code (Section 4007) allows any member of the governing board of a school district or community college district to simultaneously serves as a member of the County Committee.

Monthly meetings for the County Committee are held on the third Wednesday at 6:45 p.m., as needed. Regular meetings are held at the County Schools office at 601 N. E St. in San Bernardino.
