Kettle New Chair Of County Committee on School District Organization

SAN BERNARDINO - The San Bernardino County Committee on School District Organization elected Nancy Kettle of Alta Loma its new chair at it annual reorganization meeting on Dec. 15. She replaces Stan Weisser of Redlands who served two years as chair.

Kettle previously served as the committee's vice chair. Joe Lenz of Upland was elected vice chair to replace Kettle. Three members took the oath of office for four-year terms of office. Joining Kettle were Chuck Christie of Yucaipa and Walter Hawkins of Rialto.

The 11-member county committee has two representatives for each of the five supervisorial districts, plus one member-at-large. The committee meets monthly as needed to rule on matters such as school district boundary changes, school district unification proposals and changes in school trustee elections.

Monthly meetings of the County Committee normally are held on the third Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. Meetings are conducted in accordance with the Brown Act or opening meeting law.

Members closed the meeting in memory of Ray Abril Jr. of Colton, who was a member of the committee. Abril passed away on Dec. 14. Members will consider an appointment to replace his seat on the committee at the February 2011 meeting.
