County Board Of Education Seeking Applicants For Vacancy

SAN BERNARDINO - The San Bernardino County Board of Education is accepting applications to fill the seat left open by member S. Michael Tahan, who resigned Dec. 7 to take his seat on the Fontana City Council. Tahan was elected to the council in November.

The vacant board seat represents Trustee Area C, which includes the districts of Chino Valley Unified, Cucamonga, Fontana Unified, Mountain View and a portion of Chaffey Joint Union High (within the Cucamonga and Mountain View school district boundaries).

The remaining four members of the county board will interview qualified applicants and make a provisional appointment at a special board meeting tentatively scheduled for Jan. 21, 2011. The person appointed will serve out the remainder of Tahan's term until Nov. 2012. The next regularly scheduled election for county board members is Nov. 6, 2012.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must be a registered voter residing within Trustee Area C. Interested applicants may obtain an application from the County Superintendent of Schools Office, 601 N. E St., San Bernardino or from its website, http://www.sbcss.k12.ca.us/BoE/index_BoE.php. The deadline for application materials is Jan. 3, 2011.
