Burbank Elementary To Hold Reading Buddies Event On Oct. 8

SAN BERNARDINO - The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, in partnership with SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union and the San Bernardino City Unified School District, will kick off Reading Buddies at Burbank Elementary on Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. The volunteer reading program calls on business, civic, community and education leaders to commit to reading to students once a month in a classroom environment.

San Bernardino County Superintendent Gary Thomas, Burbank Principal Elizabeth Benoit and other officials will lead the event. The public-private partnership supported by local chambers of commerce, service organizations and other businesses has been created and expanded countywide to include school districts, such as Central, Colton, Chino Valley, Etiwanda, Ontario-Montclair, Rialto, San Bernardino City and Victor Elementary.

The Burbank Elementary program will kick off with meet and greet and classroom reading. Future Reading Buddies dates for the school are: Nov. 5, Dec. 10, Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 4, April 22 and May 20, which culminates with a finale celebration. Reading events begin at 9 a.m.
