Sycamore Rocks Elementary Named National Blue Ribbon School

2010-09-09

APPLE VALLEY - Sycamore Rocks Elementary in the Apple Valley Unified School District became the 11th school in San Bernardino County history to be named a National Blue Ribbon School, according to a statement today from the California Department of Education.

This is the fourth consecutive year a county school has earned the distinction, and it's the first time an Apple Valley Unified school has received the honor.

Sycamore Rocks was one of 21 public schools from California to be named a National Blue Ribbon School. The distinction is awarded to elementary and secondary schools that are both academically superior and have demonstrated dramatic gains in student achievement while serving an economically disadvantaged population of students.

In 2008-09, Sycamore Rocks had an Academic Performance Index score of 895.

It joins 10 other county schools to receive National Blue Ribbon status. Past county school recipients are: Richardson Prep Junior High and Sixth Street Prep (2009); Middle College High School (2008); County Springs Elementary (2007); Brentwood Elementary (2003); Lomitas Elementary (1999); Vineyard Junior High (1996); Eisenhower High School (1993); Bemis Elementary (1988); and Terrace Hills Junior High School (1983).
