County Districts, Schools Scheduled To Receive $111.5 Million In Federal Funds

SAN BERNARDINO - San Bernardino County local education agencies are projected to receive $111.5 million in federal education jobs funding, according to preliminary figures released by the California Department of Education on Sept. 2.

The funds were approved by the California legislature in Senate Bill 847, which is still awaiting final approval from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Statewide, California's allocation under the federal legislation is $1.2 billion.

The funds can be used by the 33 school districts, charter schools and County Superintendent of Schools to hire or retain teachers, nurses, counselors and paraeducators. The preliminary projections are based on a percentage of revenue limit figures, which will be revised once the legislature adopts and passes a state budget. So, the projections could change significantly depending on what is adopted in the state budget.
