Distinguished Students For County Schools ROP Honored

SAN BERNARDINO - Fourteen students from the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools' Regional Occupational Program will be recognized with Distinguished Students Awards at a ceremony with the County Board of Education today.

"I am proud of the outstanding efforts of these students, who represent the very best of those in career technical education," County Superintendent Gary Thomas said.

The 14 San Bernardino County students, who represent 10 county high schools in 14 areas of career technical education focus, are:

  • Estefany Caceres, Sultana High School, information technology;
  • Alaina Chapparo, San Bernardino High School, agriculture and natural resources;
  • Justin Criswell, Silver Valley High School, finance and business;
  • Rosa Galvez, San Gorgonio High School, engineering and design;
  • Esther Gonzales, Alternative Education Center in Hesperia, health science and medical technology (Category 2);
  • Jason Kaiser, Granite Hills High School, building trades and construction;
  • Isabel Lopez, Hesperia High School, hospitality, tourism and recreation;
  • Hannah McDonald, Rim of the World High School, arts/media and entertainment;
  • Bennett Reynolds, Rim of the World High School, transportation;
  • Edith Rico, Sultana High School, education child development and family services;
  • Aniceta Ruiz, Barstow High School, marketing, sales and service;
  • Samantha Shifter, Rim of the World High School, manufacturing and product development;
  • Jonathan White, Rim of the World High School, public service;
  • Richard Yaw, Cesar Chavez/Dolores Huerta Center for Education, health science and medical technology (Category 1).

Each of the students received certificates from California Assemblywoman Wilmer Carter of the 62nd District, as well as Assemblyman Paul Cook of the 65th District. County Supervisor Josie Gonzales of the Fifth District gave California Association of Regional Occupational Centers and Programs certificates to the recipients.

"ROP helps establish a sense of responsibility in our youth, allowing them to explore career choices with a focus before they attend college," Carter said in a statement.

Ross Bumcrot of California Tool and Welding did judging in the manufacturing and product development category and was impressed by the students' work.

"You could see the passion and pride they have for their ROP classes and their teachers," Bumcrot said. "It is obvious the future definitely looks bright in the hands of these outstanding students."
