County Schools To Compete In Statewide Fitness Challenge

SAN BERNARDINO - San Bernardino County Superintendent Gary Thomas and Jake Steinfeld of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness will kickoff a countywide Fitness Challenge where the top performing school could win $100,000 in fitness equipment.

The kickoff event will take place at Arroyo Valley High School in San Bernardino, 1881 W. Baseline St. The kickoff will begin at 10:30 a.m.

County Supervisors Josie Gonzales of the 5th District and Paul Biane of the 2nd District will join Thomas at the event. Both supervisors have pledged to award up to $12,000 to the top five performing schools in the contest in each of their districts.

The contest will run at least for four weeks prior to May 31 and is an effort to raise awareness for the benefits of physical fitness for students, educators and parents statewide. All Californians are encouraged to have 30-60 minutes of physical activity three to four times per week.
