Initiated in 1985, the California Distinguished Schools Program honors elementary and secondary schools in alternate years. The award is recognition of the school's educational program, including high expectations for all students, the implementation of state-adopted standards, and results in narrowing the achievement gap.

This year's Distinguished Schools will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim in June. The county Board of Education will honor San Bernardino County recipients at its meeting in June, too.
