Three County Teachers Earn National Board Certification

SAN BERNARDINO - Three teachers from San Bernardino County earned their National Board Certification and a fourth teacher was recognized with a national award, according to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Brian Jeffrey, an English teacher from Los Osos High School in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District, was honored nationally with the Characters Unite Award.

The county teachers who received their National Board Certification were among 349 from California who achieved the standard for 2009. San Bernardino now has 134 teachers who have become National Board Certified, and the state has 4,581, the fourth-highest total nationally. The County Board of Education plans to recognize the National Board Certified teachers at a future meeting.

The following are this year's National Board Certified Teachers by their school, district and area of certification:

Marie Belt, Dorothy Grant Elementary, Fontana Unified, literacy, reading language arts/early and middle childhood;

Deborah Hilak, Mission Elementary School, Ontario-Montclair generalist/middle childhood;

Sarah Johangiry, Early Education, Fontana Unified literacy, reading language arts/early and middle childhood.
