Family Online Safety Forum To Be Held Sept. 10 In Apple Valley

2009-09-03

APPLE VALLEY - A free Family Online Safety Forum will be held on Sept. 10 to inform parents and students about possible dangers associated with the Internet.

The event will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools' Desert Mountain Education Service Center, 17800 Highway 18 in Apple Valley.

Deputy Frank Navarro of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department will provide information concerning online safety and how law enforcement is dealing with sexting and cyber-bullying.

Kathleen Steele and Jody Oliver of the County Schools' Center for the Advancement of Smaller Learning Environments (CASLE) will provide parents and students with resources they can use for online safety.

Because of the nature of the discussion, parents are cautioned about the graphic nature concerning parts of the presentation. Children under the age of 13 will not be admitted.

Although the event is free and open to the public, those interested in attending need to register online at http://oms.sbcss.k12.ca.us/eventdetail.php?gid=26&id=28908 or by calling (760) 242-7565.

The event is sponsored by County Schools' Alliance for Education and CASLE programs, as well as the County Sheriff's Department.
