Alvarez Selected As New Administrator Of County Schools' ROP

SAN BERNARDINO - Kit Alvarez, a longtime administrator with the Colton-Redlands-Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program (CRY-ROP), has been selected as the new administrator of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools' ROP, County Superintendent Gary Thomas announced today.

Alvarez replaces Mark Lyons, who is retiring today after 38 years of experience in career technical education.

"I am excited about having Kit join our County Schools' ROP," Thomas said. "She has outstanding experience as a leader in developing and delivering curriculum, instruction and support services in career technical education."

Alvarez has been the director of Educational Services for CRY-ROP since 1998. Prior to that, she was the program manager for CRY-ROP from 1990 to 1998.

She also has been a lecturer for the Designated Subjects Vocational Education program at the University of California, Riverside, since 1996.

She earned both her masters and bachelor degrees from California State University, Long Beach. Her first day of work with County Schools will be July 6.

County Schools ROP works with 16 participating districts to develop instructional programs and develop support services within ROP operational guidelines to more than 21,000 students in more than 100 career education classes.
