Six County Schools Selected As California Distinguished Schools

2009-04-02

SAN BERNARDINO - Six San Bernardino County middle schools have been named 2009 California Distinguished Schools, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell announced today.

They were among 261 California middle and high schools to receive the distinction. The San Bernardino County Distinguished Schools by district are:

Apple Valley Unified: Sitting Bull Middle;

Chino Valley Unified: Canyon Hills Junior High;

Mountain View: Grace Yokley Middle;

San Bernardino City Unified: Richardson Prep Hi Middle;

Victor Valley Union High: University Prep;

Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified: Canyon Middle.

"These outstanding schools represent the pinnacle of high achievement, and I'm so proud that the work of students, staff, teachers and administrators, as well as the district leadership, at these distinguished schools has been recognized," County Superintendent Gary Thomas said.

Initiated in 1985, the California Distinguished Schools Program honors elementary and secondary schools in alternate years. The award is recognition of the school's educational program, including high expectations for all students, the implementation of state-adopted standards, and visionary and collaborative leadership.
