Ten County Schools Earn Title 1 Academic Achievement Status

SAN BERNARDINO - Ten San Bernardino County schools were named 2008-09 Title I Academic Achievement Award recipients today, according to a release from Jack O'Connell, state superintendent of Public Instruction.

Richardson Prep in the San Bernardino City Unified School District is being recognized for the fifth consecutive year. Sixth Street Prep in the Victor Elementary School District has achieved the state recognition for four consecutive years.

The 10 county schools and their districts receiving Title I Academic Achievement this year are:

Bradach Elementary, Adelanto Elementary;

Sycamore Rocks Elementary, Apple Valley Unified;

Grant Elementary, Fontana Unified;

Carmel Elementary, Hesperia Unified;

Edison Elementary, Ontario-Montclair Elementary;

McKinley Elementary, Redlands Unified;

Middle College High and Richardson Prep High Middle, San Bernardino City Unified;

Sixth Street Prep, Victor Elementary School District;

University Prep, Victor Valley Union High.

"I want to congratulate the schools and their communities for this outstanding recognition for their strong academic programs," County Superintendent Gary Thomas said. "It's a credit to students, staff, teachers, administrators and district leadership that they have received this statewide recognition."

Statewide, there were 200 schools who received the recognition out of nearly 6,000 Title I schools in California. Title I is one of the programs under the federal No Child Left Behind Act designed to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged students.
