Redlands High School Wins Record 10th County Mock Trials Title

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - Redlands High School won its third San Bernardino County Mock Trials championship in the past four years and its record 10^th overall on Dec. 13 by edging district rival Redlands East Valley.

In winning the 27^th annual county title, Redlands avenged a loss to Redlands East Valley, which won the title last year and was looking for its fourth title overall. This was the 13^th consecutive year Redlands has competed in the finals of the county tournament. The two teams will be recognized at the Mock Trials Awards Ceremony on Jan. 15 at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino.

Redlands, which is coached by Donna St. George, advances to the 30^th annual state Mock Trials championships, which will be held March 20-22 in Riverside. This will be the school's 10th appearance at the state finals. In 2007, Redlands placed third out of 37 teams.

Redlands is the only school in San Bernardino County to win a state championship, winning the title in 1997. In this year's competition, Redlands' pre-trial attorney was Joel Wacks. Trial attorneys were Nicholas Coutrakon, Marianne Demirdji, Tiffany Wang and Michael Lai. Witnesses were Nicholas Coutrakon, Erik Hwang, Danielle Guillen, Jordan Mason, Valerie Pooudomsak and Lydia Ramirez. Valeriee Pooudomsak served as the team's clerk, and Lydia Ramirez was the team's bailiff.

For Redlands East Valley, the team is coached by Ed Berman. Team members were Daniel Knight, who served as the pretrial attorney. Trial attorneys were Madelynn Woodhall, Chad Parent and Ryan Griggs. Witnesses were Connor Capestany, Sheena Dreher, Zachary Garcia, Taylor Guerrero, Dominic Paramo and Lauren Swan. Clayton Holmes was the team's bailiff, and Derrik Palmero was the team's clerk.

More than 600 students representing 29 high schools participated in the Mock Trial competition this year. This event is co-sponsored by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and the San Bernardino County District Attorney's office.
