Alejandre Selected As New Assistant Superintendent For County Schools

2008-10-07

SAN BERNARDINO -- County Superintendent Gary Thomas announced today the selection of Ted Alejandre as the new assistant superintendent of Business Services for the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. Alejandre of Yucaipa is currently the assistant superintendent of Business Services for the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District.

"Ted has tremendous experience as an educational leader and chief business official, and a true desire to do what's best for students," Thomas said. "He brings outstanding knowledge of school finance and instruction, as well as the needs of local school districts to the position.

"I am confident he will do an excellent job in directing the business and financial operations of the County Schools office. I know our districts will benefit from his expertise and leadership."

The assistant superintendent of Business Services for County Schools is a cabinet level executive position that oversees the Business Services Division, which includes the development and management of a $350 million annual budget and other fiscal services in support of internal business functions.

In addition, the division supports the county's local school and community college districts by providing business advisory services in accordance with state review and reporting requirements. These services include revenue determination and budget monitoring of cumulative annual budgets of several billion dollars (as required by Assembly Bill 1200), accounting, payroll and retirement. Business support services such as information technology, facilities planning, purchasing, and contracts management also are within the Business Services Division.

"I am looking forward to serving in this capacity at the County Schools office," Alejandre said. "I care deeply about public education in this region and our state, and right now our state is facing tremendous fiscal challenges. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with all of the districts throughout the county to see that the needs of students are being met first and foremost, and to further contribute to the efforts in this county to increase quality educational opportunities in our public schools."

Alejandre has more than 20 years of public education experience. He began his educational career in 1988 in Rialto Unified in the Fiscal Services department. He moved to the classroom as a teacher for San Bernardino City Unified in 1989, and also served the district as a vice principal, principal and director of Fiscal Services. In 2004, he became the assistant superintendent of Business Services for the Yucaipa-Calimesa Jt. Unified School District. He served as president of Region 12 of the Association of California School Administrations and currently serves on the state organization's board of directors, representing Region 12.

A graduate of Cal State University, San Bernardino, Alejandre also received his master's degree in educational administration from Cal State San Bernardino.
