Middle College High School Only County National Blue Ribbon School

2008-09-09

SAN BERNARDINO - Middle College High School in the San Bernardino City Unified School District was one of only 27 California public schools - and the only one in the Inland Empire - to be named a National Blue Ribbon School, according to a release today by the U.S. Department of Education.

"We are extremely pleased that the achievements taking place at Middle College High are being recognized," County Superintendent Gary Thomas said. "With only 27 public schools in California receiving the distinction of being Blue Ribbon Schools, we applaud the work of the students, teachers, administrators and staff at Middle College High, as well as those in the San Bernardino City Unified School District."

The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Program is a 25-year-old program that encourages states to nominate public kindergarten through Grade 12 schools that are either academically superior or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.

Middle College High School joins County Springs Elementary from the Chino Valley Unified School District (2007) and Brentwood Elementary from the Victor Elementary School District as the only other San Bernardino County schools in the last 10 years to receive the National Blue Ribbon distinction.
