Fifteen County Teachers Earn National Board Certification

SAN BERNARDINO -- Fifteen teachers from San Bernardino County earned their National Board Certification earlier this month, according to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

They were among 444 teachers from California who achieved the standard this year. San Bernardino now has 115 teachers who have become National Board Certified, and the state has 3,081, the fourth-highest total nationally.

The County Board of Education plans to recognize the National Board Certified teachers at a future meeting.

The following are this yearís National Board Certified Teachers by their district, school and area of certification:

Central Elementary: Luanne Rhodes, teacher on assignment, English language arts/early adolescence.

Chaffey Joint Union High: Lily Min, Etiwanda High School, science/adolescence and young adulthood.

Colton Joint Unified: Ilene Mino, Grimes Elementary, generalist/middle childhood; Mary Beth Richardson, Harris Middle School, English language arts/early adolescence; Debra Smith, Colton Middle School, English language arts/early adolescence.

Fontana Unified: Alison Lowder, Canyon Crest Elementary, generalist/middle childhood.

Ontario-Montclair Elementary: Marla Bailey, Vista Grande School, generalist/middle childhood; Kevin Clay Dixon, Euclid School, generalist/middle childhood; Mary Kay Scheid, Vernon Middle School, English language arts/early adolescence.

Rialto Unified: Kimberly Schmidt, Dollahan School, generalist/middle childhood.

San Bernardino City Unified: Irene Awad-Shendi, San Gorgonio High School, social studies and history/adolescence and young adulthood; Marlene Bicondova, Martin Luther King Middle School, English language arts/early adolescence; Nadine Eastwood, San Gorgonio High School, social studies and history/adolescence and young adulthood; Patricia Shaw El-Zatmah, San Gorgonio High School, social studies and history/adolescence and young adulthood.

Victor Valley Union High: Howard Bauman, Cobalt Middle School, science/early adolescence.
