Student Entries Needed for Environmental Art Exhibition

2005-03-14

SAN BERNARDINO -- The California Regional Environmental Education Community (CREEC) is sponsoring the third annual Environmental Art Contest and Exhibition that will showcase artwork of Inland region kindergarten through 12th grade students. This yearís theme is water, and students are being asked to address the relationships of humans and the environment by creating environmental artwork, recycle art or by submitting a photo essay. The deadline for submissions is March 19.

The art projects will be placed on exhibition during a reception that will be held as part of the April Arts Walk on April 7 at the Division 9 Art Gallery in Riverside.

Two-dimensional artwork must be no larger than 2 feet by 3 feet, while three-dimensional work cannot exceed 24 inches. All projects should be accompanied by a few sentences explaining the art and be ready to hang or be displayed.

Those interested must use the water theme to address the cause and effect of relationships of humans on the environment. The artwork can offer potential solutions to problems in the environment. Photography also may be used to accompany the artwork. Projects under the Recycle Art category must use only recycled (environmentally friendly) materials. Exceptions include the use of markers, paint, and glues.

For samples of artwork and lesson plans, visit the CREEC Web site at www.creec.org/region10. To enter the contest, submit projects before March 19 to either Micah Henderson Justice, CREEC coordinator of Region 10, or to Rick Hall at the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools office at 601 N. E St. in San Bernardino. Entries may be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Entries submitted on March 19 must be taken directly to Division 9 Art Gallery, located in the Life Arts Building at 3485 University Ave. in Riverside.

For more information, contact Micah Henderson Justice at (909) 386-2797.
