County Board Of Education To File Petition With State Attorney General

2013-02-04

SAN BERNARDINO - The San Bernardino County Board of Education reported today that it took action to file a petition seeking approval to file a quo warranto petition with the California attorney general regarding a question of incompatibility of office with regards to board member Gil Navarro. The Board voted 4-0 with Navarro abstaining.

Navarro, a member of the Board since 2006, was elected to the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District Board in the November general election. Navarro assumed office with the Water District Board on Jan. 8.

The County Board had received opinion from County Counsel indicating the offices were incompatible. According to County Board President Bette Harrison, board members felt a responsibility to petition the state's attorney general in moving forward on the matter.

"This is a legal matter that needs to be resolved, and the proper channel is to go through the attorney general," Harrison said.
