Pair Of State Preschool Programs In Bear Valley Unified Seeking Students

BIG BEAR LAKE - Enrollment is now being accepted for state-funded preschool programs that are in session at two elementary schools in the Bear Valley Unified School District operated by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools for low-income families who meet eligibility requirements.

The state preschool sites at Baldwin Lane and North Shore elementary schools offer comprehensive child development programs and hold classes three hours per weekday.

Eligibility for the programs is based on a schedule of income ceilings for Child Care and Development Programs. A family of three with a monthly gross income of $3,518 or less would meet the eligibility requirements, as would a family of six with a gross income of $5,159. Those enrolling their children do not have to be employed.

A new regulation has been established for the 2012-13 academic year. State law requires that families with children enrolled in part-day state preschool programs be assessed a fee in accordance with the law. The fee for a family of three whose gross income per month is between
$1,950 and $3,518 will be a minimum of $1 per day, up to a maximum of $8.88 per day during the days the program is in session. For a family of three or more, gross incomes of less than $1,950 per month would not have a fee.

Students need to be 4 years old by Dec. 2, 2012 to receive first priority. Students need to be 3 years old by Dec. 2, 2012 to receive second priority.

In addition, sites are seeking substitutes for work in the programs. Please contact the classroom at the schools for information concerning substitute work.
