Resource and Referral

Child Care Resource and Referral agencies are an integral part of California's child care system. Since 1976, with the passage of AB 3059, state funds have been available to help parents locate child care, provide technical assistance to new and existing providers of child care, and to facilitate communication between existing child care and child related service providers.

KidsNCare has referral counselors available to help parents determine their own family child care needs, to provide information on child care options, and on how to select appropriate quality child care to meet their specific needs. Referrals may be made to a variety of child care arrangements, including public and private programs. There are no charges for these resource and referral services.

Referrals are available online at www.KidsNCare.com. Log in and access at no cost a child-care referral list of family child-care homes and child-care centers. Find the right placement based on the city, hours of care needed and age of the child. For phone referrals, call (909) 384-8046, (800) 722-1091 or in the High Desert at (760) 245-0770.

Child care providers (center-based/family child care) are provided opportunities to develop/expand skills through workshops, directors meetings, conferences and specialized training. The Toy Lending Library is available in San Bernardino and Victorville, for family child care providers to borrow developmentally appropriate toys, curriculum, books, children's books, flannel boards, paint easels, puzzles, music and training videos. Licensed Centers are limited to the use of curriculum books and training videos. Laminating and die cuts are also available.

Problem solving assistance is available to child care providers on curriculum issues, child development, or problems relating to children in child care. Technical assistance is available on issues regarding licensing, regulations, parent/provider concerns and legislative information. Potential providers may receive information regarding the licensing process and requirements. Information is also available on potential or existing state funded child care programs, Trustline registration and information is provided for license exempt providers
