This month, most of the 412,000 students who attend schools in San Bernardino County will begin the academic year at their schools. For students who will be attending middle or high schools, this is a continuation of a familiar experience, but more than half of the county's enrollment comes in grades from kindergarten to sixth grade. Those students, in particular, may need the support and nurturing of their parents and caregivers to confidently attend their first day of classes in school.
As county superintendent, I cherish the relationship our schools and districts have with the PTA as advocates who positively impact the lives of students, as well as their families. In San Bernardino County, our Fifth District PTA provides strong leadership for families and communicates effectively to support parents and families in the important work of assisting their children achieve academically.
